Playing at school and in lessons: Educators‘ Day 2022
How can board games be used in lessons, at school, and in community and senior work? Answers to this and other questions were provided at the Educators’ Day at SPIEL.
Learning through play – No school year without board games
Stephan Hildebrandt’s thesis is: (Almost) any topic can be introduced to pupils with the help of a board game. In his talk at the Educator’s Day, he used practical examples to show how board games can be used in lessons in all areas of life.
Board games as an education and care practice
Micha Le Bourhis, head of Asmodee Research, presented the recently founded Access+ studio in his talk. The studio aims to provide equal and inclusive access to board games by developing games suitable for people with cognitive impairments. Léa Martinez, the first Game-in-Lab PhD student, then presented part of her research on board games, cognition and learning. In her talk, she explained how board games can be useful for learning in children and adults. Finally, Liam Cross and Gray Atherton from Edge Hill University presented their research on tabletop games and autism.
The Educator’s Day took place as part of SPIEL 2022. There were even more talks than those recorded, for example on topics such as “School rules for good coexistence – From competitive to cooperative game settings” or “Classic board games vs. educational games”. You can find more information about the event on the fair’s website.
