TV documentary: Board Games – Welcome to the World of Board Games
The documentary “Board Games – Willkommen in der Welt der Brettspiele” shows why we love games. It introduces the people behind the successful products and reveals that games are not always innocent either.
The Hessischer Rundfunk documentary explores why a simple board, a die and a few pieces can captivate people so much that they spend hours immersed in this world. The documentary meets the creators, like Klaus Teuber from near Darmstadt, whose invention “Catan” revolutionised the board game world. Or the founders of Pegasus-Verlag in Friedberg, Hesse, who opened their successful game shop 28 years ago. And it meets the illustrators and editors who accompany board games from prototype to finished box. Finally, the documentary asks: How do board games influence players’ perceptions? And how does the scene deal with this? Today, diversity is an important topic, but colonialism, racism, sexism and war propaganda have also left their mark on board games.
